How Let’s Date keeps you safe

What we do, how to spot a romance scam, and how to stay safe when you meet someone from online dating.

What we do

  • Email verified. Members confirm their email address and add a profile photo before they can browse or message.
  • Messages are AI-screened. Private messages are automatically screened before delivery to block sexual content, solicitation, scams, threats and references to minors where detected. Flagged accounts are reviewed by our team. No automated system catches everything, so please report anything that slips through.
  • Photos are checked. Uploaded profile photos are automatically checked for explicit and violent content.
  • Optional ✓ Verified badge. Members can complete a card check, which is never charged, to show a ✓ Verified badge. We don’t check government ID.
  • Members-only profiles. Profiles are visible to signed-in, active members only, never public and never indexed by search engines. Only your first name and surname initial are shown.
  • Where members log in from. Each profile shows the country a member last logged in from, which can be an early warning sign if someone claims to live nearby.
  • You’re in control. Block anyone, report anyone you’ve exchanged messages with, or pause your profile at any time. Reports are reviewed by our team, and accounts that break our rules are suspended or removed.

How to spot a romance scam

A romance scam is when someone builds a fake relationship online to get your money. Warning signs include professing love very quickly, avoiding video calls, asking to move the chat off the platform, and eventually asking for money, gift cards or crypto for an emergency or investment. Never send money to someone you haven’t met in person.

  1. 1They say they love you, or call you their soulmate, within days or weeks.
  2. 2They always have a reason not to video call or meet in person.
  3. 3They want to move quickly to WhatsApp, Telegram or email.
  4. 4Their story has holes: a job overseas, a sick relative, a sudden emergency.
  5. 5They ask for money, gift cards, crypto or help with an investment, however they put it.

The ACCC’s Targeting Scams report puts reported losses to romance scams at about $140 million for 2025, combining reports to Scamwatch, ReportCyber and other agencies, and most scam losses start with online contact. Figures are from the latest report at the time of writing.
